One of the biggest dreams of an average western teenager is to spend a summer backpacking around Europe. Many things have to be planned in advance, such places to visit, accommodation, an optimum schedule and events to attend, but sometimes important things like what and how to pack for backpacking are left for last minute.
Check here a couple of tips that you might find very useful when the time for pack your belonging is getting close.
Travel light, travel easy
You have to keep in mind that here we will just make a brief reference to the basics to be carried in your pack when backpacking in Europe in a real “low impact” level, so we try to gather a group of things always keeping in mind that you have to travel as light as possible and take with you as little as possible because every unnecessary item ends up to be a burden.
The truth is that, when backpacking, the least important thing is the way we look, so it makes no sense that we can look very elegant, but you are traveling so heavy and bulky that you can barely move.
Also, the other young travelers are in the same situation you are and the most probable situation is that all your fellow backpackers only have a pair of jeans, some t-shirts and little more. So, at the end of the day, who cares about how you look?
In any case, forget fancy clothes and make sure to get underwear for a week, a pair of shorts, a bathing suit and a light sweater (during summer is not necessary but it is always advisable).
Remember that you can wash clothes in a hostel if you have it all accumulated or just washing socks or underwear in the shower or sink and let them dry at night, so you can always have clean clothes.
Personal care Items and other small
Another important factor that you have to think about is to make a list of personal items but not carry more than necessary. Deodorant, razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair gel (you have to be neat for a night out or in the case you are planning to do auto stop).
Also, save some space for toilet paper and some pills for a headache, stomachache, diarrhea or some other common ailment like a flue. Very important also carry sunglasses, sunscreen and a small alarm clock.
Sleeping bag and Tents
We must bear in mind the place we’re going to determine if a regular sleeping bag will be needed and if the one we got will be enough to protect us in the night. If you go to a very cold place, you can sew a blanket in order to add a homemade liner.
If budget is not an issue, you just buy a multilayer bag; which can be converted to a bag for any weather needed.
Choosing a tent also depends on where we go. If you only think of walking from town to town, we can do without it because we will surely sleep in shelters, police stations, churches or whatever roof we find, so in most cases, we load up the tent in vain and never use it.
In the case our trip stops in rural places, it is essential, to get a tent. The most common is the igloo kind and make sure to add an isolator and keep a can of sealant spray at hand.
How can a teenager survive a holiday?
A teenager can survive a holiday by looking at the positive aspects of everything, listening to a good playlist, eating good food, playing board games and by participating in any ongoing conversations.
