Aer Lingus Airlines Review in 2018

Aer Lingus is the national airline of Ireland. Based in Dublin, Aer Lingus flies to more than 40 routes across Europe, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. It serves an expanding list of long-distance destinations in the United States, as well as Dubai.

Passengers for long-haul routes that depart or arrive outside Europe are required to check in three and a half hours before scheduled flight departure. Those traveling within the United Kingdom and European routes are required to check in two and a half hours prior to flight takeoff. Check-in counters close 45 minutes before departure.

Passengers are allowed to carry one piece of carry-on luggage with maximum dimensions of 20 x 28 x 33cm and not exceeding the maximum weight of 6kg. A personal item, such as a laptop bag, handbag or briefcase is also allowed. The maximum size of carry-on luggage for all flights departing from the United Kingdom is 16 x 35 x 45cm.

All checked luggage on short-haul flights between Ireland, the UK and Europe, if paid online before departure will cause €5 per bag. If paid at the airport on the departure day, the fee is €8 per bag. No luggage can exceed 20kg.

On long-haul flights to the United States, passengers will enjoy free luggage allowance for two bags per passenger, with a combined weight of not more than 36kg. No one bag can weigh more than 32kg.

On long-haul flights to Dubai, passengers can bring two bags per passenger free of charge, with a combined weight of less than 20kg.

Fees for excess baggage vary by destination. For overweight bags on short-haul flights and flights to Dubai, passengers must pay €8 per kg. For flights to the United States, a fee of €40 applies for luggage weighing between 36kg and 46kg, and a fee of €80 for luggage weighing between 46kg and 84kg.

Passengers may change their booking details online. On certain Aer Lingus flights, the fare for children is 90 percent of the standard adult fare, if accompanied by an adult. There is no special discount for senior citizens traveling on Aer Lingus.

All pets must be booked as cargo, and there are certain days on when pets can travel. Passengers must provide extensive documentation on the pets and abide by the restrictions.

Small musical instruments can be carried as hand-held items. A separate single seat must be purchased if the passenger wishes to carry the musical instrument in the cabin.

Sky Café serves drinks and snacks that can be purchased on short distance flights. On long-haul flights, Aer Lingus offers a complimentary three-course meal with non-alcoholic drinks. Special meals such as vegan or dietary meals must be booked in advance before traveling.
